Passion Project: Cape Hope Foundation, Northern Tasmania

At Harrison Agents our team live, work and raise families in communities right across Tasmania and many of them give their own time to causes close to their hearts. Our Passion Projects series shines a light on those causes and the people behind them, wherever they are in the state.

This time we’d like to introduce the Cape Hope Foundation, a Launceston-based charity championed by Anita Giles, Property Consultant in our northern office. Her passion has grown into an ongoing partnership that we’re proud to support as a business.

What is the Cape Hope Foundation?

The Cape Hope Foundation is a committee of passionate locals who believe in the power of a strong and supportive community. Formalised in 2013, the foundation supports initiatives and programs that create lasting benefit in Northern Tasmania through a simple philosophy: offer a hand up, not a handout.

Every board member volunteers their time. Funding comes from generous local donors and two annual fundraising events, including the signature Gala Cocktail Party. In the last financial year alone the Cape Hope Foundation approved around $180,000 in funding for projects and organisations in our community.

Where the funding goes

Over the years Cape Hope has given generously to local causes, from women’s shelters and neighbourhood support services to educational scholarships across Northern Tasmania. The foundation also supports JCP, helping displaced young people get back on track and change the trajectory of their lives.

Every contribution is guided by the foundation’s vision for Northern Tasmania: a connected and caring community where education is valued, people have the skills and tools to thrive and support is given with dignity. Cape Hope is committed to making sure all support delivers measurable positive outcomes for the people and organisations it helps.

Why Anita got involved

For Anita, it started with a single night out.

“I first came across Cape Hope Foundation when I attended my first Cape Hope Foundation cocktail party and it stuck with me. There was something about their ‘hand up, not hand out’ philosophy that just resonated. Years later, once life gave me the space to give back, joining the committee felt like an easy choice. It’s exactly the kind of organisation I wanted to be part of: one that genuinely helps people build a better future for themselves.”

She has now been a serving board member with the organisation since 2023.

From one team member’s passion to a business partnership

Through Anita’s advocacy and passion, Harrison Agents has come to support the Cape Hope Foundation through a three-year partnership that includes event attendance, raising awareness, volunteering, and ongoing financial commitments.

While our team works right across the state, Northern Tasmania is home to many of our clients and colleagues. Backing organisations that make local communities stronger is something we value wherever we operate, and we’re proud to stand behind a team member who gives so much to hers.

How you can support Cape Hope

There are plenty of ways to get behind the Cape Hope Foundation. You can attend the Gala Cocktail Party, make a donation or follow Cape Hope on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date with the projects your support makes possible.

Every dollar raised stays in Northern Tasmania, helping local people build a better future for themselves. Wherever you are in the state, you can help by sharing Cape Hope’s work with friends and family in the North. And if you’re heading to the Gala, we hope to see you there.
